Francis Antonie – Chief Executive officer

Francis Antonie is the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Governance and Law, which started in late 2024. He is a graduate of Wits, Leicester, and Exeter Universities. He was awarded the Helen Suzman Chevening Fellowship by the UK foreign Office in 1994. From 1996 to 2006, he was senior economist at Standard Bank; thereafter he was director of the Graduate School of Public and Development Management at its University. In 2010, he assumed Directorship of the Helen Suzman Foundation where he served until the end of 2021.

Anton van Dalsen is a legal research analyst at the Institute for Governance and Law. He graduated with a BA from the University of Pretoria and an LLB from the University of Stellenbosch. He has extensive experience in the funding of the resources sector in South Africa and elsewhere in Africa, including 20 years at Investec Bank in this field.

Jonathan van der Walt is a legal researcher at the Institute for Governance and Law. He is an alumnus of Stellenbosch University with a BA Language and Culture and an BHons in Philosophy. While working in online education and copy editing, he completed an LLB through UNISA. He has experience researching and writing reports on government maladministration.

Sonal Bhoolia is a legal researcher at the Institute for Governance and Law. She graduated from UNISA with a BA in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB). In 2021, she participated in the Change the World Model United Nations representing Mexico in the General Assembly.
